COK Partners With CaribCash Remittance Services

COK Co-operative Credit Union has partnered with CaribCash Remittance services to offer our members and the wider Jamaican publlc, another remittance option. Discussions on the partnership began in early 2007, and culminated with an agreement towards the end of the year, which now sees COK and our local sub agents partnering to increase the options available to senders.

These local sub agents include selected branches of Singer and Access Cambio and other credit unions: Clarendon Co-operative Credit Union, St. Thomas Co-operative Credit Union, Portland Co-operative Credit Union, Trelawny Co-operative Credit Union, St. Elizabeth Co-operative Credit Union and Westmoreland Co-operative Credit Union.

CaribCash operates under the umbrella of Roraima Financial Services (RFS), which is headed by Colin Vickerie, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Vickerie indicates that CaribCash represents "a cheaper, more efficient, more convenient and more secure web-based money transfer service, that caters to the millions of African and Caribbean citizens living in North America and Europe".

Currently, CaribCash represents the widest distribution services in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. In the Caribbean, there are over 180 locations in Guyana (72), Jamaica (50), the Dominican Republic (52), Trinidad and Tobago, St. Maarten, Antigua, Turks & Caicos and Dominica and approximately 2000 locations in North America.

Karen Maylor-Graham, Senior Cambio and Remittance Officer at COK says, "Since the start of the year there has been a significant increase in transfers from the United Kingdom (UK) and Antigua where there is a large Jamaican population." In the UK, senders are able to access CaribCash through Checkpoint Financial Institution.
